From Rings to Rodents: The Strangest Things Found in Drains

At DALROD we’ve seen it all. From the mundane to the downright bizarre, with decades of experience our team has encountered some truly unexpected items lurking in drains.

In this post, we’re diving into some of the weirdest things our engineers have found over the years. Prepare to be amazed, amused and perhaps a little bit horrified as we uncover the oddities that have made their way into pipes. Whether it’s a misplaced piece of jewellery, a wandering animal, or something even more peculiar, each discovery comes with its own story and a reminder of why its best to think twice before flushing anything down the drain.

Fox in a Fix: DALROD Peterborough’s rescue of a cub from a tight spot.

In 2017, a baby fox was discovered trapped in a drain.

Our engineer rescued the frightened cub and brought it back to our Peterborough office for care. After ensuring the fox was safe and healthy, the team released it into nearby woodland later that day.

Toy Car Traffic Jam:

The DALROD North East team stumbled upon an unexpected cause for a broken kitchen gully which was causing recurring issues with flooding -a collection of approximately ten toy cars.

Dentures in Distress:

Just when our engineers thought they’d seen it all, we encountered this. The hilarious and bizarre discovery proves blocked drains are never something to smile about (Sorry -we had to!).

A Feathered Mishap:

We warned you this could get horrifying at times! This ill-fated pigeon was found by our Milton Keynes team and proves despite how grim some of our drain discoveries are, our engineers are prepared and ready to face any situation.

“Alexa, Are You Stuck?”

During a routine check,  DALROD Northampton discovered an Amazon Echo Dot lodged in a pipe. This quirky find highlights the unexpected surprises our engineers come across. Who knew smart devices could end up in such a tight spot?

Toys Taking a Wrong Turn:

If you’re a parent you’ve probably had a few experiences of your child’s toys going missing, never to be seen again. Maybe there’s one place you haven’t checked though… This find by DALROD Oxford proves that

kids and the hiding spots they find for their toys can never fail to surprise us.

Brick Blockage:

Staying on the subject of toys, here’s another discovery made by the DALROD Oxford team on a recent Drainage CCTV Survey. As well as the usual (and wide range of) items we see on our surveys, this one was made a little bit different with the unexpected addition of some Lego bricks.

A Sparkling Save:

In 2023, the DALROD Nottingham team were called out by a Husband who’s wife had accidentally flushed her wedding ring down the toilet.

With skill and a bit of luck our team were able to retrieve the precious band, reuniting it with its grateful owner.
