At DALROD we’re experienced at covering many aspects of drain maintenance. This means in terms of blocked drains we’ve seen a wide range of different causes -but this one was a first!
DALROD Birmingham were recently called to attend a well-known aquarium in the city centre for one of the most common drainage issues -blocked drains. What wasn’t so common was the cause of the blockage.
The aquarium is home to two rescued Alaskan sea otters, Ozzy and Ola. As otterly (sorry -we had to!) cute they are, otter fur and pipes aren’t a good combination when it comes to keeping drains free flowing. Humans know hair and drains don’t mix but explaining that to Ozzy and Ola proved to be quite difficult.
As part of our ongoing works we also carried out a drainage survey to investigate existing and potential future issues. Equipped with the latest in drainage CCTV survey technology, working diligently while being supervised by a curious colony (or waddle) of penguins, we were able to complete this and identify any drainage issues. We think the penguins were just as fascinated by us as we were by them!
DALROD’s experience and expertise in drain cleaning and maintenance ensures the aquatic inhabitants’ environment now remains pristine and free from any blockages that would disrupt their playful antics.

Clean drains are crucial for maintaining the health and hygiene of any environment. This is especially true for attractions visited by the public on a regular basis. By ensuring the drains are clear we helped to create a safe and clean habitat for the marine rescue facility. The animals continue to thrive so the centre can continue to operate as normal with minimal disruption.
